1. Darwin Core Standard
Darwin Core is the most widely used standard for managing and sharing biodiversity data. It allows species observations from diverse sources to be integrated, making them discoverable and easily accessible. Its structure is based on a main event table (event core), to which occurrence and measurement tables can be added.
Event table (event core): Contains contextual information related to the collection or observation of species: date, sampling location, geographic position, protocol used, etc.
Occurrence table (occurrences core): Describes the specimens observed during the events: scientific name, number of individuals, the presence or absence of a taxon, and any other relevant comments related to the observation.
Occurrence Measurement Table (emof): Allows you to associate specific measurements with occurrences or events: length, weight, sex, temperature, wind speed, etc.
These definitions are intended to familiarize you with the Darwin Core format. For more details, please see the Appendices section. Using the Darwin Core format is not mandatory for sharing data with the SLGO.
⚠️ Please note: Using this standard is not required to share data with us. Structuring according to this format is handled by our team. The examples are simply intended to illustrate the possible options if you wish to share your data with us, either partially or fully structured in Darwin Core.
Examples of templates, both partially and fully compliant with this structure, are provided as examples. Section 1.1 presents a first approach to the format, while Section 1.2 shows a complete example.
